I am in Fukuoka

So on Saturday we moved to our second station for the summer session program about East Asian Tales of Food which is taking place in Fukuoka, Japan. The Fukuoka Women's University is much smaller than Ewha Womans University. After the arrival we were shortly welcomed by the professors and went up to the dormitory.
My group lives in a 4 bed dorm in 6th floor which had the best view. And the next amazing thing was the dorm itself. There is a bathroom, kitchen and we all had our own rooms with a balcony. The kitchen is a lot bigger than my dormroom at Ewha inclsive the balcony which also does not have a nice view like here... so … I really don't want to move out :)
For diner we went to a Sushi Restaurant which was a 10 min walk from the University so that we could see more of the streets in Fukuoka. They have a left-hand traffic and drive a lot bicycle which I like a lot about this city. Also the towm is a little smaller so everything appears more quite and relaxed which was a very I welcomed very much since the Seoul life is very much the opposite.
Eventually we arrived at Kura-Sushi which is a famous restaurant chain in Japan.
They have a circle system that has been adapted to my other Sushi restaurants in different countries. Every Sushi plate costs 100 yen which is about 1 € which is much cheaper than the german price level. This chain has been founded to give the customer a better service and clear prices. Before that customers who eat out at Sushi restaurants decreased as the Sushi masters were not communicative. Due to that the prices wasn't clear so it happened that people had to pay a lot in the end. In the past the Sushi restaurants also became very competitive so that nowadays the Sushi quality is very high at a payable price.
Also there is a screen where the customers can order the sushi that they want to eat which I experienced as a really good and quick method.
My favorite one's:
1st is engawa (flatfish) with ponse which is brown-colored jelly reduced from orange juice. It has a very fine sweet and slightly bitter taste which goes very well with engawa and gaenjip (perilla leaf).
2nd was tuna meat with tender egg.
In Fukuoka you will find bending machines with drinks after about any 30 to 50 m on the streets. Very comfortable when walking around in the heat.
As this was the first saturday night during summer session we met the other groups to drink sake. I think (and I hope I am not making any prejudices) among Asian girls Japanese and Korean can drink very well. Of course we had several things to eat with it like Otsumami (Japanese snacks) and Bibim-Ramen (a mix of the Bibimbap flavour and Ramyun). We had a very good time! :)
On sunday we made an excursion to Dazaifu to see the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. We had to take the bus to the next subway station. There are many convenient stores at every corner where you can get magazines, drinks and a variety of food and coffee. And they always have my favourite snack: Onigiri!
But the first stop was at Tenjin the biggest shopping area in Fukuoka with a big underground shopping area. Yay! Before going to Dazaifu we went straight to eat Ramen: I will report on that experience in an extra post.
So the shrines in Dazaifu are built in the Momoyama Style which belongs to the 16th century and are very resplendent. After arriving at the trainstation we walked the way to the Shrines that has a lot of small traditional shops.
Also this place is very famous for it's Mochi (Japanese rice cake) that you can get fresh made and warm from very kind elder women. As you will expect it I tried one of course. Mmmh...
Then we finally arrived at this very calm, beautiful and stunning place!
Since we were accompanied by 37°C during our trip we got very exhausted and found a nice place and cooled down with shaved green tea ide. Whenever you will be in Japan you really need to taste them. Sooo delicious!
I hope you don't get tired of my food posts but after that we had diner at an Okonomijaki place which is some kind of very delicious Japanese pancake. We had a panplate in the middle of the table and could made our own Okonomijaki with prepared ingredients. That was also so so good!
I hope I could introduce you to this Fukuoka and you enjoyed reading this post. <3 Fukuoka
